Background

Gilwell Park is renowned worldwide for its Scouting heritage, offers a beautiful setting and an incredible range of activities. Gilwell Heritage Trail, which covers 29 of the park's most fascinating historic locations, includes the Faith Walk, reflecting UK Scouts' commitment to inclusivity for people of different religions as well as those of no formal faith. On this Faith Trail, you'll find a Buddhist Sala, Gilwell Park Mosque, Outdoor Chapel, a Synagogue, and a Roman Catholic Chapel.

We are excited to announce a new addition to the Faith Trail: the Sikh Sanctuary. Planned by the 13th Southall (Sikh) Scout volunteers and supported by other Scouting volunteers will be a building with 4 open doors to welcome everyone from all directions. This space for reflection will include seating inside and feature appropriate quotes from Gurbani (Sikh scriptures). Our objective is to establish a Sikh presence at Gilwell Park, the UK Headquarters for Scouting. This will provide Scouts and leaders, who visit throughout the year, with significant exposure to Sikhism and raise awareness of Sikhs in the UK. Additionally, the sanctuary will be appreciated by numerous visitors to Gilwell from all over the World.

Visitors will take away a deeper understanding and appreciation of Sikh culture and values.
